09/16/19 SFP Week 2: Everyone returned! We gathered together for a meal from Slice of Life Pizza.
In week two, our activities were used to help caregivers understand the changes that are going on in youth’s lives and the need to enforce rules. By practicing “I feel…” statements, caregivers learned the importance of enforcing rules without criticism. We had wonderful discussion at the beginning of our parent session about how they are showing love and setting limits.
In our youth session, they acknowledged their own frustrations in life and how their parents also have difficulties. This led to further conversation about understanding how stress influences us in the ways we act and how we communicate.
As families joined back together, we discussed ways in which youth and their caregivers appreciate each-other. Families identified their strengths and values to build a family tree! This week, families were also given an extra incentive, the opportunity for their youth to attend the Brunswick County 4-H Girls Wellness Retreat! Four youth participating in EYFP attended free of charge!
