07/01/20: In the Yancey Extension building, everyone’s office is a pretty direct reflection of themselves. Most of them resemble a normal setup – except for one. That office belongs to Peirce Bingham. In his office you’ll find fishing poles, outdoor identification pamphlets, a deep freezer full of meats, charcoal bricks, various games, a guitar, and probably anything else you could think of. Peirce is Yancey county’s Mountain Challenge Coordinator, a 4-H club mentor, an executive member on the Mitchell-Yancey Substance Abuse Task Force, a leader of Yancey’s Celebrate Recovery chapter, and an EYFP facilitator. He has been with the program since Day 1! If there’s anyone who wants to see youth and families in our area be successful, it’s him.
Peirce was asked to give a summary of why he is involved with EYFP, and he had this to say, “Mountain Challenge is a referral based program helping the ‘At Risk Youth’ of Yancey County. We offer multiple programs to serve the various needs of these kids and offer parenting classes to equip parents. The problem is we really never get the chance to work with the entire family, either we get the youth referral or the parent referral, and if we do get both, they are at different times. We have always wanted to participate in a program that helped the family holistically, as a parents/kids/family unit.”
“EYFP is a game changer and exactly what most of the families we serve need to meet the challenges they are facing. We are thankful to be a partner in this important work!” – Peirce Bingham
