07/22/20: Our program wouldn’t be possible without the help of all our community partners, but there are two people who are especially important to the success of our program. Yancey County is blessed with an amazingly talented, dedicated, and very patient mother-daughter childcare duo. Sabrina has been a teacher for our county Head Start school for several years, and her daughter Hope is a local high school student. Together they keep our younger crews entertained so we can work seamlessly with our program’s targeted age groups.
As facilitators, we worry about lots of different pieces of the program puzzle coming together, but childcare is never one of them. When our kids are in the hands of Sabrina and Hope we know that they are safe, treated fairly, and properly entertained. Sabrina’s background as an early childhood educator comes in handy and she uses it to her advantage. We’ve seen some incredible Lego structures, play doh sculptures, and artwork at the end of our sessions! The kids are never bored, we are guaranteed to hear them laughing or singing as we transition between sessions, and they always look forward to seeing Mrs. Sabrina and Ms. Hope the next week.
