07/08/20: The Yancey County Parent Education Work Group is one of our biggest supporters. Several years ago a few of the parent education program facilitators, retired educators, parents, individuals working in the school system, and other interested community members came together with one common goal. That goal was to decrease the amount of stigma on parenting programs and to increase the number of people getting involved with the classes.
Over the years the group has made significant progress toward their goal. In Spring of 2019, the group was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Yancey Fund to hire a program coordinator, purchase food, and pay for childcare for the six different programs currently offered in the county. These funds have made it possible for parents to search the programs offered, register for programs, and provide the facilitators with numbers so they can properly plan for their sessions.
EYFP’s relationship with the Parent Education Work Group is successful because we are able to promote one another at various events, the group provides us with childcare, and they’re a huge advocate for the EYFP curriculum. The work they’ve done in the community is tremendous and we’re happy to partner with them!
