6/29/19: The Onslow County Empowering Youth and Families Program (EYFP) had an impact on their community this weekend when they participated in the “You Are Not Alone – Bullying Awareness Rally and Resource Fair” in Jacksonville on Saturday, June 29th.
Approximately 50 people visited the booth, where program staff and participants provided information about EYFP, opioid resources and the impact that the opioid crisis is having on Onslow County, facts about addiction and the developing brain, and led a stress reduction activity for youth.
Four visitors to the booth won medication lock boxes, which were provided by a community partner. EYFP staff also helped families sign up for the fall session of the program. The Empowering Youth and Families Program is focused on building strong families and making an impact to reduce opioid misuse in Onslow County. Participants, who are caregivers and their youth aged 10-14, participate in twelve weekly sessions and learn how to have a powerful family and a powerful community. EYFP includes meals with each session, as well as a Family Weekend Retreat at the close of the sessions. The program resumes in September 2019.
