10/22/19 PFPC Week 2: During this session, the youth learned about who they are as individuals and adults learned the way their child grows, learns and interprets the world around them. Youth were taught that they are changing and that is normal. They were also taught that their family is a team that helps them get through this period in their development.
The caregivers discussed the developmental changes of their youth. The focus was on positive interactions to help the youth feel supported. The 5:1 ratio is a great way for caregivers to help youth recover from negative experiences. The family session had the families develop a family motto to bring them together as a unit with the focus on “us” instead of “me”. The caregivers discussed how their youth are changing physically, mentally and spiritually. As a family they developed a motto to increase the feeling that they are a team and were given homework to list family activities they may do and to do one of those activities.
