3/11/19 Week 2: This week we had a new family to join, and after a wonderful meal and personal introductions, we began our sessions and focused on stresses that fall on caregivers and youth.
It was fun to see that in our lists of youth and adult stresses that some were completely different such as: financial responsibilities, having to share all of your stuff with siblings, and making decisions that affect a household, but chores were a common stress between both groups.
During the close of the family session when answering the question “one strength my parent/caregiver has is….”, one of the youths described her mom with the word “strong”. Her mom was amazed that out of all words she could have used, she chose that one.
During a follow-up conversation with the new family that joined us this week, mom stated that this is the first time that all of her kids have been able to sit together and enjoy something that didn’t focus specifically on one child. They are excited for the opportunity to grow as a family unit.
