11/04/19 PFPC Week 3: This week the youth and caregiver sessions discussed safe and risky behaviors. The youth practiced peer pressure resistance skills and evaluated their emotions when approached to make a risky choice. The caregivers focused more on how to identify behaviors that require consequences and how to appropriately give consequences for the youth in their home. It was fun to see the charts of risky behaviors that were made during the individual youth and caregiver sessions. Although the groups met in different rooms, the charts were almost identical.
During the family session, families listed expectations that they have in their homes, as well as what they expect out of the youth when they are at a friend’s home. Everyone was encouraged to praise behaviors that met the family expectations.
We watched the “Flip Your Lid” video that informed everyone how our brain reacts to specific events such as yelling, stress, and other situations that occur in the home.
