Catawba County

Catawba County began its Empowering Youth and Families Program in Fall 2020. They are on track to start Cohort 1 virtually Spring 2021. This was the first family cohort to participate in EYFP in Catawba County. Each family participates in a ten session program that is designed to strengthen their relationships and empower them to lead community change.

Tina Mcgillvary

Program Assistant, Empowering Youth and Families Program
  • Graduated Wright State University B.S. in Public Health Education
  • Married with two grown daughters and 5 grandkiddos!
  • Life long foodie who loves teaching nutrition and cooking to anyone anytime!
  • When not in the kitchen cooking or shopping at the farmers Market, she’s out exploring with her two big dogs: Dutch, a weimaraner, and Charlie, a red bone coon hound.
  • Enjoys living near the mountains and all the nature that surrounds Catawba County.

Donna Mull

Extension Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Started her career in Extension by working as a  Family and Consumer Sciences and Community Development Agent in Macon County 
  • Has BS and MS degrees in Family and Consumer Sciences, earned from BS Appalachian State and Western Carolina University respectively. Later, she returned to complete an EdS degree in Higher Education Leadership from Appalachian State. 
  • Enjoys being involved with Empowering Youth and Families because it blends her natural passion for youth programming and strengthening families, as well providing opportunities to learn about family dynamics through her coursework
  • Parent of two boys in their 20’s and has lived through some of the challenges that come with parenting
  • Likes being able to make EYFP available to families in Catawba County, to equip parents with more knowledge and skills to tackle those tough days of parenting, and to help youth be better prepared to navigate the teen years.
