5/4/21: We had an awesome night with our fourth session (Session D) of the EYFP program. We had Taco Tuesday tonight and ate tacos together while discussing how our weeks have gone so far. In the youth session, we learned about influences. They discussed role models, and who in their life is a role model to them. We got all kinds of answers such as parents, friends, other family members, Dolly Parton, and even some of our EYFP facilitators! The youth talked about friends and what some of the good traits to look for in a friend are.
In the other room, the caregivers learned about friendship as well. They thought back to the friends they had during their childhood and looked at the positive and negative things that came from those friendships. They discussed how they cannot pick their child’s friends, but they can help them figure out the difference between a good and bad friend.
In the family session, the families played a game of questions and got to know more about each other and the facilitators. They continued the discussion about friends and where you can find and develop friendships. An example brought up was at 4-H or school. All in all, it was a fun night and the families and staff both had a blast.
The youth gave our EYFP PA a nickname, and they now call her “College Woman.” It’s encouraging to us that the youth have taken a liking to our staff and that they can create an encouraging and happy environment for them. The families always walk in smiling and excited. It is so fun to see how much joy this program creates.
