5/20/21: This week our family got a chance to learn more about the brain, addiction, and how they impact one another. Our youth were able to create a brain model using playdough while also learning about what part of the brain controls which function. To help the youth understand the functions better, we completed activities that helped them connect the name of the part of the brain to what role it plays within our body. Afterward, the youth understood what the brain stem, cerebrum, and cerebellum do and where to locate them on the brain.
For their session, our caregivers were able to learn more about addiction and how it affects the brain. After a few videos about what happens to the brain when using opioids and how the body responds, caregivers were interested in learning more about signs and symptoms that one may show when using opioids. Our caregivers enjoyed the information and appreciated the thorough explanation of opioids and how they can affect us.
Overall, this week was a good week of learning! With hands-on activities and visuals, we were able to teach our family more about awareness and how to fight against substance misuse in our community.
