12/14/21: This is one of my favorite sessions for the youth! All four facilitators thoroughly enjoyed going over the Safe vs. Risky Choices chart with our youth. The youth got to see what choices they make in their everyday lives that can be harmful, which puts them in a position to suffer some harsh consequences. One youth stated, “I didn’t realize how many risky choices I actually make from day to day. It is time for me to eliminate those and make safer choices.”
In the “Solve Me!” game, youth used a calculator, ruler, scissors, and a dictionary to complete several tasks. This activity put an emphasis on what tools can be used for specific tasks. The caregivers watched a video on emotion coaching where they were taught how to identify what emotions their youth express and how to be aware of those emotions, so they can listen and help their children work through them.
