4/20/21: In EYFP Session B of Powerful Families in Onslow County, the youth started off playing a game of Charades where they acted out their daily activities. Some youth came up with things like brushing their teeth in the morning and doing homework in the evening. Mr. John and Ms. Sophia facilitated the lesson and taught the youth how to deal with stress. The youth connected their stressed responses and positive responses to different events in their lives. The youth also learned about Reflexive Listening.
In the caregiver session, the parents discussed with Mr. Lee and Mr. Armando what a typical day looked like for them when they were of middle school age. The parents shared how stressful it has been for their children because of the pandemic. Reflexive Listening was an exercise practiced in the caregiver session, and the caregivers expressed how much they look forward to practicing Reflexive Listening with their youth in their homes. One stated that Reflexing Listening is a good tool for all caregivers to use when dealing with the emotions and feelings of their youth from day to day.
