12/03/19 PFPC Week 7: The youth were taught about the major sections of the brain and how it controls different functions. They made playdoh models of the brain.
They did various physical activities that demonstrated how the brain controls our motor functions.
They then created a storyboard to explain what opioids are meant to be used for and how addiction can wreak havoc on the body. The caregivers learned how opioid addiction occurs and why it is so damaging to an adolescents developing brain.
For the family session, we played games demonstrating what happens when the neurons in our brains are disrupted by a chemical such as an opioid.
During this session, we discussed harmless habits, so the families signed an agreement to give up a harmless habit for 21 days. Choosing a habit to give up for 21 days was very challenging to some of the kids.
