02/26/20 Week B: After a delicious rib meal we began Session B. This session concentrates on stresses in daily life and how to cope with them.
The youth played a game of charades to act out their daily activities and were guided to identify stressors and positive events during a regular day. Facilitators instructed them on how to use reflexive listening skills to help decrease stress throughout the day. The calming techniques calmed the kids down considerably.
The caregivers listed things their youth may experience throughout their day that may be stressful to them. They were also taught reflexive listening skills and practiced this technique as a group.
When we reconvened with the families, they identified events throughout the day that may be stressful and were presented with ways to decrease anxiety and stress by deep breathing, repeating calming phrases, body relaxation and imaging a calming scenario.
