3/1/21: Now that we’ve finished up all of our Powerful Families, Powerful Communities sessions, we are moving on to our community event! Our family learned everything they could ever want to know about creating an event from the very beginning. Since our Community Action Planning Days were January 23rd and 30th, we met independently on the 27th to walk through our plan. Once the plan was laid out, the family created video clips that we compiled into one video. This video was shared with the other participating counties on our January 30th Zoom meeting. It was awesome to hear all of the work that each county put into planning their events! No two sounded alike, and there were some very creative ideas for events taking place during the pandemic.

Our family chose the topic of stress management for their event. We’ve brainstormed an online series of educational classes dealing with different techniques to manage stress. We’re working out some of the details, but our family is excited to be doing some hands-on research. They will be attending the Healthy Habits Family Weekend coming up later this month. This is an exciting virtual event for families to experience a holistic approach to food and nutrition education with different activities. Our plan for our virtual sessions will be set up very similar to this so it will be beneficial to see how everything works.

As we finished up our Community Action Planning process, our participating mom said: “I’ve never put together anything like this but always wanted to do something just didn’t know what, or how to start.” She enjoyed seeing how the plan worked from start to finish, and how it’s something she gets to implement with her kids.
